After a sexual assault, Haitian women have no access to medical services
HAITI. Women in refugee camps in Haiti suffer "epidemic" of sexual violence, more than a year of earthquake, several organizations reported to the Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) yesterday, Friday.


There is a 'relentless epidemic of sexual violence and continued impunity, "said Lisa Davis, director of the advocacy group Women's Mother, during a hearing at which several rape victims testified.

More than a year of the January 2010 earthquake that killed more than 220,000 dead and hundreds of thousands homeless, more than 800,000 people according to official figures are still living in refugee camps.

The Commission, an entity of the Organization of American States (OAS) issued precautionary measures in December 2010 which asked the Haitian government to take measures to stop 'the pattern of sexual violence "against women and girls as well as improve access to health and justice and more security in the camps.

After a sexual assault of women, and children have no access to medical services, and when trying to report it must submit, among other things, a medical certificate is often difficult to obtain, Delva said.

KOFAVIV recorded 465 cases of rape in refugee camps in 2010, and 90 so far this year.

ELECTIONS
The parties of the candidates for president of Haiti are still speculating on the outcome of Sunday's election, despite the express prohibition of the electoral authorities on such practices.
